She argues that it is crucial that published Linked Data accurately represent core aspects of the original metadata related to language, provenance, license, and dataset metadata. The speaker proposes a "proper representation" of these features using W3C standards, best practices and guidelines for multilingual Linked Open Data.

Linked Data Vocabulary Management: Infrastructure Support, Data Integration, and Interoperability https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/linked-data-vocabulary-management-infrastructure-support-data-integration-and-interoperability/ Fri, 05 May 2017 06:59:13 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/linked-data-vocabulary-management-infrastructure-support-data-integration-and-interoperability/ This article discusses the shift in popular approaches to large-scale metadata management and interoperability. These approaches are rooted in Semantic Web technologies, such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF). In the library community, this trend has accelerated since the W3C re-framed many of the enabling technologies in terms of Linked Open Data (LOD). As more and more RDF-based metadata become available, a lack of established best practices for vocabulary development and management is leading to a certain level of vocabulary chaos. This article discusses strategies for vocabulary publishing, discovery, evaluation, and mapping have the potential to change the conversation significantly.

MARC Into Linked Data: An Update on the Bibliographic Framework Initiative https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/marc-into-linked-data-an-update-on-the-bibliographic-framework-initiative/ Sat, 14 Jan 2017 06:46:01 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/marc-into-linked-data-an-update-on-the-bibliographic-framework-initiative/ These slides summarize the progress towards the goal of translating the MARC 21 format to a Linked Data model while retaining the richness and benefits of existing data in the historical format. Topics covered begin with an analysis of the translation problem and conclude with potential migration scenarios for a broad-based transition from MARC to a new bibliographic framework.

Semantic Web Death Match 2011: Industry vs. Academia vs. Standards https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/semantic-web-death-match-2011-industry-vs-academia-vs-standards/ Tue, 10 Nov 2015 05:13:00 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/semantic-web-death-match-2011-industry-vs-academia-vs-standards/ The past couple of years have been an "interesting time" for the Semantic Web – with both the positive and negative aspects that that implies. We have seen new standards emerging from the W3C, new proposals out of Google and Facebook which have different visions for the future, and a growing application space struggling to make head or tail out of all of it. Schema.org? OWL 2.0? RDFa? who controls the vision of the Semantic Web's future?
